David & Shilpi are getting married!

We are so excited to invite you to our wedding celebration! We are asking for a quick turnaround on your availability and confirmation — please review the details and submit your RSVP as soon as you can!

Huge thanks to our parents (Sonjui and Anil, Nancy and Glenn) and to our families for their support in making this happen.

One note - this wedding starts on a Thursday night! No, it’s not a government-sanctioned three-day weekend BUT we are hopeful that you can join us for the whole time.

We know that for many, this is a big ask and may involve long-distance travel, getting outfits together, taking time off work, coordinating childcare, etc. We would love to celebrate with you (and truly hope it will feel worth it!) but will absolutely understand if it is too much.

  • We want to make it easy and sustainable for our guests to dress in traditional Indian attire! We encourage any online orders to happen at least 1.5 months in advance.

    Here are our top recommendations:

    • Myntra - Wide range of prices, frequent sales, and includes sustainable fashion lines

    • Utsav Fashion - Offers budget wedding wear with rental and sale options

    • Jabong - Great for contemporary and traditional Indian clothing at multiple price points

Please let us know if you need help!

  • Yes!

Haldi - A ceremony full of joy, where the bride and groom are smeared with a turmeric paste by family and friends, representing purification and blessings before the wedding. Traditionally people wear white outfits for this event (that they are ok with getting dirty!)
We will be combining this with a general camp field day, with games and colors and dancing and fun!

Sangeet- A lively event with music, dancing, and family members/loved ones performing choreographed dances for the couple, signifying the coming together of both families and communities. Traditionally people wear semi-formal and colorful Indian clothes, feel free to get ones that shine in the light!
Sign up on RSVP sheet if you already know you are ready to join (and take seriously!) a choreographed dance. Even if you don’t sign up we still may tag you to join :) .

Baraat - An energetic procession that leads into the wedding ceremony. It is a slow moving parade complete with dancing, music, drums, and more.
Traditionally this was the entrance for the groom’s side to the bride’s house but we will be inviting everyone to join the Baraat. The only qualifications are that you love the couple and that you want to help David prepare for the ceremony!

Mehendi - This means literally, applying Henna to the skin. Though we won’t have an event dedicated to Mehendi, there will be opportunity for people to get henna for the wedding. Traditionally only women get henna, but this is not that type of wedding! All are welcome to showcase the art!

  • There is ample wifi at Camp Newman and there are multiple options for on-site working on Friday for any necessary meetings or other important items.

  • It’s not just a corny wedding password or that we’re going to kiss (we do plan to!). But here’s a reference that our guess is ~40% of our guests will enjoy before reading this FAQ (maaaaybe even one of the couple just found out!). For the rest of you, check out the timeless, emotive songs of Kishore Kumar and get ready for all sorts of new experiences coming at you.

We hope you’ll join us for the weekend!
